Masyaf Castle holds profound significance in the Assassin’s Creed video game series, serving as the literal and ideological homeland of the Levantine Assassins.

In the Assassin’s Creed universe, Masyaf is the towering, rock-perched headquarters and central training ground for the Assassin Brotherhood during the Third Crusade (12th century), featuring most prominently in the original Assassin’s Creed (2007) and its sequel, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (2011).
- Seat of the Order: The castle and the surrounding village function as the fortified sanctuary and capital of the Order. It is where the protagonist, Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad, begins his journey, is stripped of his rank, and undergoes a process of redemption by assassinating nine high-value targets across the Holy Land.
- The Bureau and the Master: The castle houses the central Assassins’ Bureau, the council chambers where Altaïr receives his missions from the Mentor, Al Mualim. It is the sole location dedicated to the Assassins’ doctrine, training new recruits in the Creed’s principles, combat, and the iconic Leap of Faith.
- A Place of Secrets: Later in the timeline, particularly in the sequences of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, the castle returns as a critical location. By this point, Altaïr has sealed a vast library of knowledge and powerful artifacts, including a Piece of Eden, deep within the fortress, effectively making it the Brotherhood’s final resting place and vault of ancient secrets.
- Clash with Templars: Throughout the narrative, Masyaf is presented as a constant target, reflecting the historical threat to the real Nizari Isma’ilis. The castle undergoes multiple sieges and internal conflicts, culminating in the battle against Robert de Sablé and the Templars in Assassin’s Creed.
